What we heard: Speaking with GameSpot in May 2008, Ready at Dawn cofounder and creative director Ru Weerasuriya expressed a measure of doubt over whether his studio would return to the PSP. The news came as some disappoint to game-starved PSP owners, considering the independent developer’s success in 2006 with Daxter and 2008 with God of War: Chains of Olympus, arguably two of the best titles for Sony’s handheld.

Chin up, PSP gamers, as Ready at Dawn may not be done with the platform after all. Joystiq reports today it has received word from a “trusted source” that Sony has commissioned a new PSP installment in its wildly successful God of War franchise, developed by none other than…Ready at Dawn. While details on the title were not revealed, the gaming blog’s source indicated that Ready at Dawn may have something to show at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, which will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center June 2-4.

The situation is entirely plausible. On the developer’s own blog in December, Ready at Dawn commented on the recent holiday sales success of Chains of Olympus and Daxter, saying, “Maybe we should reconsider this whole ‘no more PSP games’ thing because we seem to be pretty good at it.”

Medicine Man dvdrip

Chances Are trailer

Ready at Dawn has also said it is at work on two separate titles. One of those games appears to be an original title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, if a since-removed LinkedIn update by a Ready at Dawn lighting artist is to be believed. The other project, however, is shrouded in mystery, as job listings on the developer’s Web site only serve to support an in-development title for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

The official story: “It’s all just rumor and speculation at this point.”–A Sony representative.

V for Vendetta full

The Namesake movie full

Bogus or not bogus?: God of War is a franchise that begs for sequels, regardless of what platform they may be for. If Ready at Dawn is waffling on its position to abandon the PSP, it seems highly likely Sony would be falling over itself to once again hand off its coveted franchise to the proven studio. Tentative not bogus.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Jan. 30, 2009 — Paradox Interactive publicly revealed key announcements about its upcoming titles at a Paradox media event in Stockholm yesterday. In front of a packed auditorium of European journalists, Paradox Interactive showcased their forthcoming releases, with some demonstrated in public for the first time. Brand new gameplay features were revealed, including the following information:

Mount & Blade Multiplayer Expansion Announced
I’ll Be Home for Christmas rip
The first expansion pack for the critically acclaimed Mount & Blade was demoed publicly for the first time by developer Taleworlds. The expansion will include a number of new features requested by players which will vastly improve enjoyment of the game.

Improved strategic AI

Extended diplomatic options, allowing the player to wield more power

State-of the-art rendering technologies introduced for the first time, including the addition of High Dynamic Range (HDR)

Brand new multiplayer feature including the ability for 32 players (possibly more – TBD) to play on a single map in team death-match style battles

New Features in Hearts of Iron III
Lead Developer Johan Andersson introduced the first public demo of the latest installment of the best-selling World War II strategy series. Some of the brand new features unveiled in the presentation included:

AI-assisted Unit Interface – When a unit is selected, it will report to the player its current status, either negative or positive. Also, if the unit has been given a specific objective, it will report what resources it needs in order to succeed.

Improved Espionage – Players will receive more useful reports from their spies in the field, including where enemy units are located and what orders they have been given.

New “Threat” Feature – Replacing the “Belligerence” concept from Hearts of Iron II, the ‘Threat” feature is a more localized and subtle feature. It affects the player’s relationships with enemies and allies based on geographic proximity to the action, with stronger effects for nearby nations, and weaker effects for those countries farther away.

In-Depth Game Play Revealed in Majesty 2 High School Musical 3: Senior Year ipod
After a brand new, introductory trailer was unveiled, the presentation focused on the previously unrevealed aspects of the forthcoming Majesty 2: Fantasy Kingdom Sim:

Marketplaces – Marketplaces are the hub of the kingdom. There is only one marketplace in each kingdom, making them the center of the player’s game world. Because of their centralized locations, marketplaces are common targets for your enemies.

Trade Posts – Defended by turrets because of their prized attributes, Trade Posts will generate caravans which will travel to the Marketplace.

Temples – Used to promote basic heroes to more powerful heroes, Temples can be built in places of power only. Places of power are defended by magic creatures which the player needs to defeat before they are able to build a Temple.

The Stats – 16 missions in each single player campaign. 6 single player scenarios. 8 multiplayer maps. 30+ hours of gameplay

Additional highlights of the media event included a presentation by Frictional Games, the developer of the Penumbra Collection. Frictional Games briefly summarized their next project, an untitled horror game set in the 18th Century and scheduled for release sometime in 2010. Russian developer Ino-Co was also on hand to demo the latest build of their superbly polished turn-based fantasy strategy game Elven Legacy.

Spin-Off Brand Mezmer Games Announced
Paradox Interactive also announced the creation of a spin-off brand, Mezmer Games, designed to provide promising independent developers a digital distribution outlet for their games in addition to marketing support. The first game to be released under Mezmer Games is the quirky strategy title Stalin vs Martians. Another title being released is Legio, an original turn-based fantasy strategy title that counts chess amongst its influences.

About Paradox Interactive:

Since 1999, Paradox Interactive has been a leading developer and publisher of PC-based strategy games. World-renowned for its strategy stable, the company holds a particularly strong presence in the United States and Europe. Its steadily-growing portfolio includes original titles such as the critically acclaimed Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron franchises, as well as the best published titles like Penumbra, Supreme Ruler 2020, and the greatly-anticipated Majesty 2 – The Fantasy Kingdom Sim.

The Black Cauldron dvd Last Thanksgiving, French publisher Ubisoft–unburdened by Turkey-gorging duties–issued a robust earnings report for the six months ended September 30, 2008. As part of that earnings release, the company confirmed that it was working on a follow-up to Assassin’s Creed, which has sold an estimated 5 million units worldwide. Later rumors had the game forgoing the original’s medieval Middle Eastern setting for Revolutionary France.

The Long Kiss Goodnight move Erin Brockovich rip

Today, as part of another healthy financial report, Ubisoft referred to Assassin’s Creed 2 by name, declaring that it will ship sometime during the 12 months ending March 31, 2010. Given that the first game was one of Ubisoft’s tent-pole holiday 2007 games, a Q4 2009 launch looks likely. Ubisoft’s next fiscal year will also see a sequel to the popular high-tech shooter Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, originally released in March 2007.

“Our [fiscal year 2009-10] lineup comprises several potential blockbusters with the launch of seven franchises, including Assassin’s Creed [2], Splinter Cell [Conviction], and a new Ghost Recon, as well as four license-based games including James Cameron’s Avatar, three new brands, and a further-enhanced casual-games portfolio,” crowed Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “Although we have to be cautious in light of the current economic environment, we expect Ubisoft to once again be one of the most dynamic and profitable publishers in the games industry in [calendar year] 2009.”

The Lazarus Child trailer

[UPDATE] Initially, the new Ghost Recon was presumed to be a third Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter game. However, since the publication of this story, GameSpot has learned the project in question will be an all-new game in the Tom Clancy series, not a sequel to the popular GRAWs.

Unfortunately, the excitement generated by the Assassin’s Creed 2 and Ghost Recon revelations was tempered somewhat by confirmation of a major delay. I Am Alive, the multiplatform horror-survival game that was the centerpiece of Ubisoft’s E3 2008 presentation, “will require further development time and will now bolster the lineup for 2009-10,” the company said. Previously, it was expected to arrive for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this spring.
